KIWI | In-Store Efficiency and Ergonomic Replenishment with SpaceInvader
KIWI store employee replenishing fresh produce using goods delivered on SpaceInvader racks, improving ergonomics and in-store efficiency.

KIWI is one of Norway’s leading grocery retail chains, operating with a strong focus on low prices, high availability and operational efficiency. At store level, efficiency gains are not only about transport costs, but also about time savings, ergonomics and smoother daily workflows.

The KIWI store in Hamar, central Norway, provides a clear example of how the SpaceInvader solution creates direct value at the retail end of the supply chain. Goods are delivered to the store already packed and transported on SpaceInvader racks, fundamentally changing how products are received, handled and stocked on shelves.

Before implementing the system, daily replenishment involved heavy manual lifting from high pallets, inefficient workflows and the need to reorganise goods after delivery. With SpaceInvader, these challenges are significantly reduced from the moment the truck arrives.

The main operational benefits observed include:

  • Significantly improved ergonomics, working with pallets at an optimal height of around 120 cm
  • Fewer heavy lifts and reduced physical strain on employees
  • Faster and more structured goods reception, freeing time for other in-store activities

A key advantage is the ability to receive goods already sorted by zone and category, allowing many items to go directly from the pallet to the shelf without additional handling. This simplifies workflows, reduces touchpoints and accelerates shelf replenishment.

From a store management perspective, the impact was tangible:

  • Time savings equivalent to a full working day in delivery handling
  • Increased focus on value-adding tasks
  • Higher overall store productivity
  • Faster replenishment, supporting product freshness

In addition, the ability to stack goods vertically proved particularly valuable during peak periods, allowing the store to temporarily increase in-store storage capacity without physical changes to the premises.

This case shows that SpaceInvader delivers value not only in transport and distribution centres, but also directly in retail stores, improving efficiency, ergonomics, employee well-being and financial performance at the point of sale.

In Portugal, KronoLog Solutions, as the official representative of SpaceInvader, supports logistics operators, retailers and distributors in assessing the solution’s impact across the entire supply chain, from transport to store operations, using real operational data and measurable results.
