Logistics Optimisation and Digitalisation with new WMS
This project was executed for a pharmaceutical logistics operation with four warehouses dedicated to drug production and distribution, involving a 45-person team. As the business grew, the operation faced significant limitations: the current WMS was outdated and not integrated with SAP R/3, warehouse layouts generated long and inefficient flows, and critical activities such as receiving, inventory and shipping were still manual. The team struggled to obtain reliable data in real time, so the need to increase performance, traceability and system reliability became a priority.
KronoLog Solutions started the work in April 2025 by performing a full process assessment, reviewing all warehouse workflows, systems and integrations, and interviewing both operations and management. The diagnostic mapped bottlenecks, failure points and gaps when compared with industry best practices.
The intervention focused on several key streams:
- Redesign of receiving, storing and shipping flows;
- Process standardisation and digitalisation (inventory, receiving, transfers, shipping);
- Selection and implementation of a new WMS integrated with SAP R/3;
- Native reporting output for Power BI;
- Digital inventory execution replacing manual reconciliations;
- Hands-on training for the new digital tools;
Expected gains were calculated from the start. Models indicate a projected 30–40% reduction in picking and internal movements, faster execution of production orders, higher precision in receiving and quality inspection, real-time synchronization with SAP R/3 and automatic reporting. Batch control, traceability and compliance also increase significantly, in alignment with pharmaceutical regulatory standards.
This project creates a new technological and operational foundation for the pharmaceutical operation, enabling scalable growth with control, quality and predictability.
