The Intralogistics Conference 2025 was a true stage for innovation and knowledge exchange, where theory seamlessly met practice. The event’s agenda covered key topics for the present and future of internal logistics, from the application of artificial intelligence and advanced analytics to maximize operational efficiency, to the importance of the human factor in intralogistics operations.

The first presentation, led by Horácio Neri, from LTPLabs, focused on the impact of artificial intelligence and advanced analytics in optimizing logistics operations. It demonstrated how the use of predictive data and machine learning is transforming warehouse management, reducing cycle times, and improving resource allocation. Discussions revolved around how companies can apply these technologies to anticipate stock fluctuations, optimize layouts, and even predict consumption patterns for a more efficient response to market demands.

This was followed by a presentation from Gisela Santos and Nilza Ramião, from INEGI, who addressed the human aspect of intralogistics. They emphasized the importance of a balance between technology and people, highlighting how investing in team training and process adaptation can be a decisive factor in the success of technological implementations. Discussions also covered how soft skills, change management, and organizational culture influence the degree of success in adopting new tools and methodologies.

Next, Carlos João Pereira, from Aquinos, and Pedro Gordo, from Generix, presented the Gato Preto case study, exploring how automation was the key to internalizing logistics operations. The implementation of automated picking systems and collaborative robotics significantly reduced picking errors and improved product handling efficiency, with much faster response times for customers.

Following this, Óscar Lopes, from DLI Horse Aveiro, presented on streamlining and automating internal flows, highlighting the integration of automated processes and optimization of material flows, aiming for operational efficiency gains and waste reduction.

Later, António Fernandes, from Luís Simões Logística Integrada, and Sergio Cuadrado, from Reflex, presented the practical case of implementing Reflex WMS and the impact of the solution on optimizing the management of their logistics and cross-docking centers across the Iberian Peninsula. The discussion focused on how this partnership contributes to improving efficiency and operational reliability, as well as adapting to market needs.

Subsequently, Tiago Sacchetti, from Bosch, introduced an innovative approach with simulation modeling for optimized production and logistics processes. He demonstrated how 3D models and predefined KPIs can help identify bottlenecks and enhance strategic decision-making within logistics operations, optimizing resources and avoiding inefficiencies.

After Bosch, Fernando Silva and José Correia, from Arvato Systems, demonstrated how an LLM (Large Language Model) can assist in operational analysis. The presentation highlighted AI’s ability to process large volumes of operational data, providing valuable insights for decision-making and optimizing internal processes through the automation of analytical tasks.

Before lunch, the only roundtable discussion of the event took place, moderated by Miguel Nuno Silva. This panel delved into how innovations in intralogistics can be applied in practice, showcasing real experiences of operational transformation and the challenges encountered during implementation.

After lunch, two success stories were presented. The first, from Sonae MC, demonstrated how optimizing internal logistics resulted in significant efficiency gains and faster supply chain response times. The second, from Casa Mendes Gonçalves, highlighted how implementing technology and innovative processes improved stock management and product distribution, reducing waste and increasing productivity.

Next, Pedro Alves and André Ferreira, from Artevasi, discussed the use of WMS in data analysis within modern logistics. They demonstrated how the application of warehouse management systems can provide greater visibility and operational control, enabling faster and more effective decision-making while ensuring an efficient and transparent workflow.

This was followed by a presentation from Jungheinrich, which focused on innovation with and for its customers. Concrete examples of advanced material handling and storage technologies were presented, showcasing how these solutions positively impact the operational efficiency of various companies.

Finally, two more real-world case studies were presented. VRC Warehouse Technologies showcased its vertical warehouse solution used at Twintex, emphasizing the space-saving and efficiency benefits of this innovative system. Then, Leroy Merlin shared the story of the evolution of its Supply Chain Directorate in Portugal, culminating in the construction of the largest Distribution Center in the country, a major milestone for national logistics.

Beyond the valuable content, one of the aspects that stood out most to me was the quality of the audience. Being surrounded by highly qualified professionals, strategic decision-makers, and industry specialists created unique opportunities for networking and new partnerships. Conversations throughout the event reinforced that companies are genuinely interested in evolving their operations, whether through automation, process improvement, or resource optimization. Many relationships were strengthened, and they will undoubtedly translate into future collaborations.

I leave this event with even more conviction that, in Portugal, more and more people believe that intralogistics is one of the critical pillars for the success of logistics operations. Technology plays a fundamental role, but it is strategic vision and team adaptability that truly make the difference. And this is precisely where I can help.
